Joint participation with international partners in current EU calls for mining activities
(April 2015)

The DSMA and selected member companies and institutions are planning a joint participation in the following calls within the EU framework programme Horizon 2020 together with partners from France, Poland/Eastern Europe and other European countries:
  •     Deep mining on continent and in sea-bed
  •     New sustainable exploration technologies and geomodels
  •     New metallurgical systems

Cooperation with French partners (since 2014)
  • Joint French-German industry workshop on deep-sea mining.
  • This joint French-German workshop was successfully undertaken with about 40 participants from both countries on 25th February 2015 in Hamburg.
  • A joint French-German mineral resources policy meeting has taken place in May 2014 in Paris. Hosted by the French ministry and with the participation of the German ministry the participants (incl. DSMA members) discussed some deep-sea raw materials and mining activities as national strategies, known resources and latest developments, technological solutions with respect to environmental aspects and the enhancement of deep-sea mining cooperation between France and Germany.
  • Both partners have prepared a joint strategy paper „Developing new innovative technologies and solutions for sustainable raw materials supply - Proposal for a European deep-sea mining industry - “OREBUS”, the European vehicle to take off” for the European Commission.

Conference Underwater Mining Institute (September 2014)

The DSMA has participated with an own presentation in the leading international deep-sea mining conference UMI (Underwater Mining Institute) which has taken place in September 2014 in Lisbon/Portugal. There we have also had some intensive discussions with potential partners as from France, Eastern Europe, Russia, Singapore, Cook Islands and Canada.

Expression of Commitment “Blue Atlantis” in the frame of the European Innovation Partnership (WIP) on Raw Materials

Based on the preparatory work carried out by the GMT Working Group on MMR and Deep-sea Mining in January 2014 a Raw Material Commitment was submitted.

This Raw Material Commitment (RMC) was submitted with the headline “Innovative Mining of Marine Mineral Resources – A European Pilot Mining Test in the Atlantic on Tools, Facilities, Operations and Concepts”. The consortium consisted of all together 45 partners. The consortium had 7 European partners, 16 from Germany and one from Canada (Nautilus Minerals).

Since it’s founding in April 2014 the coordination of this RCM was carried out by the DSMA. Since then the DSMA participated in several meetings on these RMCs in Brussels.
