In addition to MHWirth’s 125year long legacy in the oil and gas business, the company has more than 30 years experience in the extraction of resources from the seabed.
Since 1990, MHWirth offshore drilling systems successfully perform for the offshore diamond mining. A large diameter drill bit loosens the material from the seabed which is then transported vertically through a large diameter airlift drill string to the drilling vessel. Core of this technology is the efficient and environmentally-friendly airlift technology. Compared to other solutions, MHWirth’s airlift technology uses only robust components with limited complexity under water, thus maximizing equipment availability and optimizing operational costs (OPEX).
To investigate new technological solutions for deep sea mining, MHWirth continuously collaborates with industry-leading partners and has been involved in several research projects during the past decades:
