Brief Profile:

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg participates in the Deep Sea Alliance with a consortium of five institutes. The Institute for Mineral Processing Machines, the Professorship for Mining and Special Civil Engineering, the research and teaching mine "Reiche Zeche", the Chair Geomonitoring and Mine Surveying and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering bring extensive experience in the fields of exploration to the extraction and processing of marine raw materials.
For example, as part of the EU project “Blue Mining” in the research mine at the eighth light hole a fully functional demonstrator fully functional demonstrator with a total conveying length of over 320 m for testing of conveyor systems for deep-sea mining tested. Another possibility is to use the lower soles of the mine with a water column of up to about 500 m to perform tests directly under the conditions of water pressure.
At the institutes reprocessing machines and mine surveying constructive considerations for the sensor-aided characterization of the stocks in the deposits and their extraction- and processing-relevant properties, design of underwater devices and near-face-processing technologies can be used.
The Institute of Mechanical Engineering brings expertise in constructive processing, simulation and the development of electrical drives i.a. from the extraterrestrial area into the DSMA, which can be used for use in sensitive biotopes or hard-to-reach mining areas.
If required, other competencies of the Freiberg Competence Cluster Resource Technologies can, of course, also be sporadically accessed, going far beyond the capabilities of the members directly involved in the consortium.
